Just like that, July is behind us and August has arrived, bringing plenty more sunshine and warm weather. Summer has always been our quieter season, as families are busy camping, traveling, and making the most of the nice weather. Before long, though, backpacks will be packed, routines will return, and one of our busiest times of the year will be here...

Birthday party season!

When we first started dreaming about Retro Oasis, one thing was always certain—we wanted a dedicated party room. We went back and forth on exactly what Retro Oasis would become. Would it be an arcade? Escape rooms? Both? Thankfully, we didn't have to choose! But from day one, we knew we wanted to create a place where families could celebrate together.

I still remember taking our kids to birthday parties at the bowling alley, the movie theatre, or making the trip to Chuck E. Cheese. Back then there weren't nearly as many choices, but somehow birthday parties were still so much fun. These days, there are countless options, but they often come with a price tag that can make your eyes water. On top of that, many places require you to purchase all of your food and drinks through them.

We wanted to do things differently.

No, we don't have ticket-spewing redemption games, a giant furry mascot, or plastic prizes that disappear before you get home. What we do have is an arcade full of classic games, exciting escape rooms, and a private party room that's yours for the celebration—not just a reserved table in the corner.

Even better? You're welcome to bring whatever food and drinks your group enjoys. Pizza? Absolutely. Homemade cupcakes? Go for it.

And here's a little confession...

One of my favourite things is when families bring a slow cooker full of hot dogs. The smell instantly takes me back to birthday parties from my childhood.

After we opened in 2023, I wanted to make party planning even easier for parents. That's why we created free downloadable birthday invitations that you can print at home or send digitally. We also offer retro-themed goody bags that save parents one more thing on their to-do list. The response has been wonderful, and it's become one of those little extras that families really appreciate.

At the end of the day, birthdays aren't about spending the most money or throwing the flashiest party. They're about celebrating with the people who matter most, making memories, and letting kids (and adults!) have fun together.
